Elcam Medical partners with IoT Startup Atomation and proves that even after decades in the medical industry, it still remains ahead of innovation.

In the last few years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has progressed from a fascinating vision, to a must have asset for cost and operational efficiency.  In healthcare, wireless technologies are allowing doctors to monitor patients from anywhere at any time. Analysis of accessible data is empowering the therapist-patient relationship, with ongoing communication and tailored personalized treatments. Clearly, data driven decision making reduces costs due to less malfunctions, but moreover, the technology is actually much cheaper than traditional local solutions. Elcam Medical, one of the leading Israeli medical companies, identified the potential and partnered with IoT startup Atomation to develop cutting edge solutions.

Elcam Medical provides high quality disposable flow control medical devices and solutions for the OEM industry. The tech forward company is saying so long to expensive local monitoring solutions and revolutionizing its medical system with the IoT. Up until today, sensors in a hospital room were connected to a wired monitor that not only cost thousands of dollars, but also saved data locally. Nowadays, the monitor is being replaced by a wireless compact small box that contains all needed sensors and uploads data to a cloud platform. Thus, data can be accessed from anywhere at any time, and surprisingly enough, this device costs only tens of dollars.

Data from multiple sensors deployed in different locations is gathered in one cloud database for rich analytics leading to actionable insights. Once analyzed on the cloud, the data reaches doctors and patients and real time alerts are sent to their mobile phones. As large amounts of data are collected and utilized, the given question is “is this secure?”. Elcam Medical and Atomation refused to take risks and tackled this challenge with security layers on each part of the platform – hardware, software and cloud. In addition, with Atomation’s cloud API, data can be transferred to third party databases that are aligned with all medical standards.

Atomation’s mobile SDK enables seamless integration with various sensors. Mobile apps are built on the SDK to control devices and present data, and the mobile also serves as the gateway to the cloud. According to Guy Weitzman, Atomation’s CEO: “We’ve crafted a robust, agnostic and scalable platform. We understand that the industry is dynamic, therefore we want to give our customers flexibility, letting them expand and adjust sensors and features at any time without facing heavy expenses.”

Slowly but surely, the full potential of IoT is being realized. Intelligent use of data is improving our health and overall productivity. Being able to consult with doctors remotely about the most important thing – our well being is so crucial, that it’s strange to think we live without it. Only companies who will take advantage of this revolution will be able to provide the best service and eventually dominate the market.
